Muviz ("the app", "we", "us") is operated by Elad Rubinstein, an individual developer based in Israel. This policy explains how the app and muviz.app website handle personal data and the choices available to you.
The short version
- We process account information, content preferences, and app interactions to provide and improve Muviz.
- We do not sell your personal data. Muviz does not currently operate its own advertising program. Embedded third-party services have their own data practices, described below.
- You can delete your account and data at any time.
Your choice to provide information
You choose whether to use Muviz and provide information. Account-based features require sign-in information and a profile; without those details we cannot create or maintain your account. You can decline optional photo access and push notifications, but the corresponding upload or notification feature will not be available.
Data we collect

We do not collect precise location, contacts from your address book, health or fitness data, financial or payment information, or any browsing or search history from outside the app.
How we use your data
- To provide core features: accounts, watchlists, friends, and watch parties.
- To personalize your discovery feed based on the titles you save and your genre preferences.
- To send notifications you've opted into (e.g. upcoming releases, friend requests, party invites).
Taste-setup answers and recommendation activity are stored on our servers and linked to your account. The app also keeps local caches and settings on your device. We use these signals to rank suggested titles and evaluate recommendations.
Optional usage analytics
When you select the optional “I agree to share usage data to help improve Muviz” choice during signup or enable “Help improve Muviz” in Edit Profile, we collect account-linked events about screens and features used, signup and tutorial progress after sign-in, title interactions, recommendation impressions, searches returning results (not search text), playlist actions, party participation, streaming-link openings, and app performance. Events may include timestamps, a temporary session identifier, app and operating-system versions, platform, device type and model, language, your selected region, and a campaign code from a link you open. A streaming-link opening does not tell us whether you watched a title.
We use this information to improve features, recommendations and reliability, measure return visits, and understand which campaigns bring engaged users. This optional system uses Supabase, not advertising IDs, cross-app tracking, screen recordings, review text or raw search text. It begins only after you agree and does not upload earlier activity. The signup choice is unchecked by default and is separate from accepting our terms. Leaving it unchecked does not prevent signup or use of the app. Existing users are not shown an analytics popup; optional analytics remains off unless they have already agreed or enable it in Edit Profile.
You can change this choice in Profile → Edit Profile → Help improve Muviz. Turning it off stops optional collection on that device immediately. When the change reaches our server, it stops optional event acceptance for your account and deletes its optional analytics from our active database. If offline, reconnect to complete that change. Detailed optional events have a 90-day retention window and are removed by a daily cleanup job. Account deletion also removes these events. Backup and provider-log handling is described below. Saved titles and taste preferences needed to provide your account and recommendations are separate from optional analytics.
Older app builds may include Expo Insights, which reports launches, an installation identifier, app version, platform and operating-system version to Expo. The new consent-based implementation removes that module; installing the updated app is required to remove it from your device. Store campaign links may include nonpersonal campaign labels so Apple and Google can report acquisition in their own consoles. We do not use these links to identify people across other apps.
Service providers
We rely on a few trusted services to run the app. Their roles depend on the service; some also process data under their own privacy policies:
- Supabase handles authentication, database, and storage (your account, content, and avatar).
- Expo handles app delivery and push notification routing.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) provides movie and show information, images, and trailers. Search queries and title requests are sent to TMDB through our backend to return results; images may load directly from its image service. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- Watchmode and OMDb provide discovery, availability, and rating data. Our backend sends the search parameters or title identifiers needed for those requests.
- YouTube / Google: Muviz uses YouTube API Services and embedded players for trailers. Loading a player connects your device to YouTube, which can receive technical and playback information and use cookies or similar technologies, and may serve advertisements. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website and handles website requests.
- Google Fonts delivers the website fonts. Your browser connects to Google to load them.
- Apple and Google sign-in, when you choose those options, provide authentication information such as an account identifier and the profile details you authorize.
Visibility and sharing
Your profile and content can be visible to other users through social features and the visibility settings available in the app. Public playlists and their previews can be accessible outside the app through shared links. Watch-party participants see information needed to participate, including your profile and shared party activity. Uploaded avatars and covers are served using public image URLs; do not upload confidential information.
Other users may save or clone public playlists. Copies made by others and previews cached by external services may remain after you change or delete the original.
Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not provide account data to data brokers or sell advertising audiences. Embedded YouTube services process information under Google’s own policies, as explained above. Information is disclosed through the social features and providers described above, and where necessary to address abuse, protect legal rights, or meet legal obligations.
Data retention & deletion
We retain account data to provide the service while your account is active. You can request deletion in Profile → Edit Profile → Delete account, or email support@muviz.app from your account email. See account deletion instructions. We may need to verify ownership before acting on an email request.
Deletion from active systems does not necessarily remove every backup or service log at the same moment. Retention of those records depends on the relevant provider's backup and logging configuration and any applicable legal obligations. Contact us for information about records retained in relation to your account. Other people's copies of shared content are separate from your account.
International processing
Muviz is operated from Israel and uses external hosting and service providers. Your information may be processed outside your country, including where our providers operate. Contact us for information about the locations and safeguards applicable to your data.
Device storage and external services
The app uses local storage to keep your session, settings, and cached content. Embedded players and external sites may use their own cookies or similar technologies. Following a store or streaming-service link takes you to a service governed by its own policies.
Children
Muviz is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our service providers using industry-standard protections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, restrict processing, request a portable copy, withdraw consent where processing relies on it, or object to certain processing. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. To exercise these rights, email support@muviz.app.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date above identifies this version. Changes to monetization or data practices require an updated notice and any additional notice or consent required by applicable law.
